ADDICTION and Transition

Sometimes, you desperately feel the need to avoid transitions……….Your heart begans throbbing @ a rapid pace,as soon as it suspects the advent of a transition.I read a poem in a mag(Readers Digest to be precise) when i was a kid,all that i remember from that poem, is the line “Life like a Train Goes on and on”. As a kid, this line attracted me alot,i learnt it in a jiffy, turning candid i didnt even need to learn it; it penetrated into the memory automatically. I had the hallucination that life runs smooth, just as a train moves swiftly. As i grew up,soon i realized that Trains also face accidents, the interlude of sorrows in lyf,is an analogy to the former.Someone has rightly said,” Happiness is but a short interlude,in the general drama of pain”.Fact always wins over fiction(i still wonder why??), soon my hallucination about life being a swift journey, was broken!
Life becomes more and more challenging,as you grow up! It appears to be a bed of roses, as long as you stay in your parents’lap. But gradually, the complexities creep in……..and u start feeling as if you are in chains, even though you are physically not.You start getting depressed due to the heaps of sorrows and tensions surrounding you.Suddenly your view about life changes, you start taking it as a duty instead of enjoying it………It becomes a vocation instead of a vacation. That is exactly when frustration creeps in!
From time immemorial, mankind has been an addict to various intoxications, such as;alcohal, tobacco, narcotics, opium etc. It appears as if various sort of intoxications have orignated with the mankind itself! Sometimes by choice………Sometimes by force……..sometimes in ecstacy……sometimes in sorrow, you get started with these intoxications. And once you get started, its like creeping in a warm bed in winter, easy to step in,difficult to step out. Its only the first time that frightens.
There used to be a young lad named Aryan, a well pampered guy, always got whatever he desired. He was tall, sandy haired, bulging eyes and a hansome built, in short he was seductively handsome.Well, He was handsome…….He was stinking rich, after stating these two facts; I think i dont need to mention, he was the talk of the town among girls. Dont know how, but he got “addicted” to various sorts of intoxications. As they say about bad habits, its the first time that frightens, after that it gets accelerated at a rapid pace. Same, as you open the bottle of the Russian wine VODKA(I Love “Vodka”), the initial drops take a bit of time to fall, due to the viscosity @ the surface, but soon it pours! Aryan started enjoying himself; as they say the best way to avoid problems, is to turn out of senses. As a young lad……..He always used to be on a high……He used to excel in all the departments.Success coupled with addiction becomes arrogance or rather attitude(thts wat i call it!)
As they say, nothing is permanent in this world; soon things changed. His family started suffering from pecuniary embarrassments. Now, he didnt have enough money, to play duck and drakes with!………….Once you get addicted to any sort of intoxication, you start striving for it………..and when you dont get it, you feel like a fish out of water. Things became worse, his family faced severe financial problems.
Aryan woke up @ 5 on a saturday morning, he went into the dressing room and stood before the mirror and thought……….. Today the guy in the mirror looks a bit different………The charm that he used to have on his face has vanished………He no longer has, the same optimistic approach that he used to have……… The flair and flambuoyance that he used to carry has gone………May be the guy has changed……….That’s Lyf!……..Something drove him, he wanted to change the scenario……He walked casually to his cup board, took out the key of his Bajaj Avenger from a drawer……….Then he drenched himself with body spray………Took out a pack of Malboro and a lighter from a covert place in  drawing room itself!………He started his bike and began his journey, you could have easily seen the intensity on his face…….He didnt know where to go, but he went on and on…….He was looking to get out of it, get out of all worldy attachments. He was looking for a niche where he could find-” The Charms of Solitude”. Soon, after driving for almost 55 mins @ a stretch, he came out of that fkin(No Censors fr me) world, i mean he came out of the city………..It was a new place for him…….He took out the cig(Malboro Advance to be precise) from his pocket and lighted it……….It appeared as if, he swept out all the frustration of the world, via the smoke of the cig!…….He visualized the small circles of smoke as tiny bundles or quantas of agony, dejection, depression or frustration!
Then, came a voice from his intellect…….”Hey, Aryan that is what you are! keep that attitude on…..People think you should change, but the fact is, you should not stop living your way……..Tackle the problems with a broad smile on your face, not with a brooding look on your face……You can get addicted to intoxications and passion simultaneously…..Its your attitude that differentiates you from others, dont leave it! Passion and addiction not just sound alike, they mean alike as well. When-Ever, you are in a fix or in a dilemma, always go by your instinct, by your gut feeling, instead of going by your logic!”……………For a moment, he was lost in immense concentration…….It was like coming out of a theatre, after watching a 4-hour movie, which he didnt comprehend at all………..He sat near a tree, and closed his eyes; partially to ponder and partially to enjoy the rapture of the golden puFF.
Then came another voice from his instinct…….”So Brat, wat the hell are you contemplating now……Problems are a part and parcel of life………You will face many problems in your life……..Wat will you do then??……Succumb to the situation every time??………..No, thats not the way…….Instead, counter attack them!……Always be ready, to take the bull by the horn!…….Dont quit your style……..”Style is the man”……..Its your signature…….Show them, How Addiction can be metamorphosized into passion; which can further be metamorphosized into devotion, dedication and determination…………Do things your way, not get driven, by the thoughts of others”…………Aryan stood up again, took out another malboro from his pocket and lighted it………..He was lost in thoughts again……….Sometimes, you creep into that saturation zone, when many thoughts knock at your mind simultaneously and you start feeling detached from this materialistic world, you can feel the flow of blood in your viens………..He again closed his eyes, lost in the rapture of the golden puFF again!
Suddenly, he opened his eyes……..He kicked a stone and shouted “Thats it! Here I Go”………Came to his bike, had a last look at that soothing place of meditation, where he was alone. He decided, he will never give up in life……..He will always carry the same attitude………He will work hard……..He will mingle addiction with hardwork…….He took another cig out and lighted it, and started looking at the sky, as if he was saying,”Sky is not the limit!”………He was no more carrying that brooding look, instead he had a winsome smile on his face………He started his bike and again started his journey……..You could hear him singing, or virtually shouting,” I hve Become so numb! I cant feel u der!”…….Since then, Aryan has never looked back………May be thats what you call, addiction leading to transition!

  1. Motivational….an insightful n spiritually proximal puff of marlboro became d insignia of real life ecstacy. D sweet intoxication of puff.

  2. nice story…truly depicting one who’s got so many drifts nd changes tht lead him to frustration..bt still its the passion tht never dies..its right to lead to transition rather than living in addiction..coz i must say tht addiction always leads to ruins..if nt controlled!!!!

  3. well designed n organised posts on the blog…… among them the best one ws abt the train accident which u didn’t told previously……..

  4. A beautiful piece of work..MINUS the ‘addiction to intoxicants’. I think you reach greater heights,if you’re addicted to your work….then there really IS-‘ no turning back’>>>> >>> >> >
